I get the learning license

27th Sept 2005, Tuesday.
Since a few months I was planning to give learner’s license test, but such a lazy guy I am, I kept on postponing it. Now today morning I recognized that I will be going for Diwali vacations on 28th Oct, ie exactly after one month and one day. It would be more joyful if I drive the car with a confidence of a permanent license holder. So I decided to do it right now, so that after one month I can get the permanent license.
I reached RTO at 11.15, and that guy asked me for the original documents which I did not have with me.
I threw 100 bucks for affidavit and got the signature of first officer.
Then I went and stood in the queue for test, where I revised all the sign boards and rules, and at 1.30 pm I got it done.

Two such things happened that I must note here. One is the affidavit, and the other was a quarrel between RTO guys and agents.

There were many people I observed, who may not have passed even 10th. They did not have school leaving certificate as their age proof, what all he had was one paper of affidavit, which also served the purpose of their residence proof. Now here it goes, I have seen how some fellow got the affidavit done for me. I am very sure that those guys can easily be fooled. Driving license is used as an age proof and residence proof at so many places, so it means ultimately, all those people can be fooled.
So the conclusion is, if at all it is required to cheat an organization, go for a new driving license !
It wont take more than 40 days.

Thing#2: When I was standing in the queue, some thing happened because of which some agents started arguing with RTO guys. It seems it was going to be lunch time, so the RTO told that they wont take any more tests or something. Those people were talking in Kannada, so I couldn’t understand properly. At last, the agents told that they wont move from here, and they will call the press. That’s it, PRESS ! agents started threatening RTOs that they will pull the matter to press, again and again they abbreviated the word press, media. Ultimately, RTOs agreed to agents and the procedure went on.

Conclusion: Media is something to which everybody is afraid of. Right from the time of British ruled India, the one in power is afraid of press/media. Today, due to communication technology, pace of spreading a news has become mind blowing. The TV serials like ‘sansani’ on star plus are really sowing seeds of fear in potential criminals. It is the media which has power of deciding the fate of ruling party.
Why media is so strong ? or is it the public force behind it which is that strong ?
No doubt public/mass has maximum muscle power, but it is the media which directs this power.
Media can show some things, and hide others, as per the owner’s/influencer’s interest. It can provoke to cause riots, it can encourage good or evil. Basically it can dominate the public’s thinking, and thinking dominates everything.

Sadly, most of the news papers are owned by one or the other politician.
